MALABAR BEEF CURRY

One of the most delicious curry of Malabar. Malabar cuisine is distinctively spicy, aromatic and rich. The most famous dish of Malabar is Malabar Biryani. Its delicately flavors and scrumptious taste are greatly influenced by Arabs.. 

For  Malabar Beef Curry recipe, coconut milk and grated coconut are used, it blends well with the spices and these produce a rich, creamy and spicy curry that goes well with roti or hot steaming rice.

For those who can't take hot and spicy dish, feel free to reduce the chili powder and black pepper used. Here is how I prepare this wonderful curry:

MALABAR BEEF CURRY.
Serves  8-10

INGREDIENTS

1 kg beef or lamb thinly sliced
1  cup grated coconut  blended
1 tsp chili powder
2  tablespoon  ginger garlic paste
3 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
10  black peppercorn
2 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp fennel seeds
2 in cinnamon
1  bay leaf
4 cloves
2 big onion sliced
3 green chili slit
2 tomato chopped
1/4  cup coconut milk
salt to taste
3  tablespoon  oil
curry leaves/coriander leaves

METHOD

* Mix together chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric with water to become thick paste.

* Grind together grated coconut, black pepper, cumin, fennel, cinnamon,  and cloves .
.
* Heat the oil, fry the onion until golden brown, add green chili, bay leaf and chopped tomato, cook until soft.

* Add the spices and salt, fry until fragrant. Add in beef pieces, stir until well coated.

* Now add 2 cups water, simmer until beef turns soft using medium heat.

* Add the coconut milk, cook for a few minutes until coconut comes to almost boiling.

* Remove from heat and garnish with curry leaves or coriander leaves.

* Serve hot.
