MONKEY BREAD FROM SCRATCH

Nothing beats homemade bread, fresh or fluffy from your own kitchen. Get your kids involved for lots of kitchen fun especially for this recipe, make them rolling and coating the dough with sugar, a great way to introduce them into baking.

I only use 2 cups of flour since I'm feeding a small family but feel free to double  or triple the recipe. Also  had rolled the dough into a  smaller ball (1/2 in) instead of 1 in. In fact it rose up to the brim of my bundt pan.

It should work with 18 cm  ring pan too. Anyway it turned great and my family devoured them in no time. I'm sure your family will love it as much as we do!.

MONKEY BREAD FROM SCRATCH
Yield  :   3-5 servings

2 cup all purpose flour
1.5  tsp instant yeast
2 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoon melted butter
2 tablespoon dry milk
1 tsp salt
160ml warm water

BROWN SUGAR COATING
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 cup brown sugar

METHOD

Place flour, sugar, yeast in a mixing bowl.

Combine warm milk, butter and salt in a small bowl.

Gradually add milk mixture to the dry ingredients, forms into soft dough by hand or mixer.

Knead by hand on floured surface for 10 minutes until smooth.

Transfer into greased and covered bowl, let rise until double for 1.5 hours.

Lightly grease bundt pan or 18 cm ring pan, punch dough down.

Pinch dough and shape into 1/2  in ball, coat each ball with melted butter then roll into sugar.

Place the coated balls in layer onto bundt pan. Pour remaining butter and brown sugar if any over balls. Let sit for 45 minutes. Towards the end of raising time, preheat oven @ 180 C,

Bake for 20-25 minutes. Let sit in a pan for 10 minutes, invert into a serving plate.

Let it cool slightly before serving.

My family is so glad I found your blog. Its been difficult switching from being an egg-loving family to an egg-free family. But, every weekend I pull up a new recipe (usually from your blog) and treat the family to a special breakfast treat. Needless to say, because of you we don't miss our Saturday morning scrambled eggs as much.
On the to-do list- Monkey bread! Thank you so much for sharing all your hard work with the rest of us.
