BAKED VEGGIE SAMOSA RECIPE

Baked Veggie Samosa Recipe @ treatntrick.blogspot.com

A healthy version of  classic Samosa stuffed with fresh vegetables, made from scratch.

This famous fried snack from Indian subcontinent  are well liked and enjoyed around the globe.   Mostly they are deep fried and stuffed with vegetarian or non vegetarian fillings.

If you are looking for  an alternative way to eat them, this Baked Veggie Samosa is the solution.  These are stuffed with fresh vegetables  I  have on hand, capsicum, carrot, potato and tomato.

When mixing the dough, add water little by little.  You may not need to add the specified amount as per the recipe.

I did not boil the potato before hand but straight away add them to the spices and sprinkle with some water to let them become tender..

My Baked Veggie Samosa turned  out amazing, pastry is wonderful with crisp crust.   This one is a keeper!.

BAKED VEGGIE SAMOSA RECIPE
Yield   :   12

PASTRY

2 cup  all purpose flour
5  tablespoon oil
enough water to form into  dough
1/2 tsp salt
1  tsp carom seeds (optional)

FILLING

1 small red  capsicum sliced
1 small green capsicum sliced
1 medium carrot cubed
1 large potato cubed
1 big onion chopped
3 medium  tomato chopped
2 tsp garam masala
2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2  tsp ginger minced
salt
2 tablespoon oil

METHOD FOR PASTRY

Combine flour and salt in a mixing bowl. Add in  oil,  rub into flour using your fingertips. Gradually add water until a soft dough is formed. Keep covered for 30 minutes.

Shape dough into 6 equal balls.  Roll out each ball on well floured surface into  thin circle about 1/8 in thick, cut into half.  Shape the semi circle dough into a cone, overlapping each other. Glue the seam together with a little water.

Fill up the cone with  2 tablespoon of filling.   Brush the edges with water, press together to seal.  Complete the rest of the dough.  Bake for  15 minutes then flip and bake for another 15 minutes in a preheated oven  @ 180 C.

METHOD FOR FILLING

Heat oil, fry the onion until translucent, add in ginger, salt and tomato, cook until tomato turns soft. Now add the spices, fry until fragrant. Add carrot, capsicum and  potato, sprinkle few spoons of water and close the lid.   Check for salt, remove and cool.

My husband loves samosas but I've never made them at home before. I'll be trying yours, though I will probably need to add some meat in between all those vegetables... Thank you for sharing the recipe at The Really Crafty Link Party. Pinned!

I love samosas, but we don't have a deep fryer so I never even thought of making some at home. Thanks for sharing a baked version and explaining so nicely how to fill them up. Can't wait to share the recipe with my daughter. She's the baker in our house
