BRAIDED BREAD RINGS RECIPE

Braided Bread Rings Recipe @ treatntrick.blogspot.com

These rolls are made with sweet bread dough, shape into  long rope of 12 in folded into 2 and braided,

After browsing You Tube, I came across a bunch of gorgeous rolls with different braiding techniques. They used no special gadget but simply turning the dough by braiding and twisting. I borrow that idea to shape my Braided Bread Rings.

I was pleasantly surprised to see, how easy to turn your dough into something beautiful by looking at those videos.

For the dough, I used my trusted  Braided Masala Bread recipe or use your favorite bread recipe.   If sticky, do not be afraid to add a bit more flour.

Sometimes Braided Bread Rings do become a little squished but overall the results  are simply stunning.

BRAIDED BREAD RINGS RECIPE
Yield  :  9 rolls

220 g  bread flour
50 g  butter
1.5 tsp instant yeast
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
1  tablespoon sugar
1 egg (reserve 1 tablespoon for topping)
Glaze
1 tablespoon egg
1 tablespoon milk
little sugar

METHOD

In a small saucepan, melt the butter, add in milk and remove from heat.

When the milk is warm to touch add in yeast, sugar, salt and an egg. Stir well.

Pour milk mixture onto flour, stir with wooden spoon.  Cover and let it rise for one hour.

Punch the dough down,  knead for 1 minute until smooth.  Cover and let sit for another 30 minutes.

Knead again,  divide into 9 equal portions, add more flour if needed.  Roll each into a  long thick  rope about 12 in long, fold into 2.   Join the  2 ropes together at one end and start braiding.  Tuck in the ends.

Place dough  onto baking pan, let it rest for 1 hour.

Brush  with glaze,   bake for 20 minutes @ 190 C until golden.

They look delicious Nora. Here in South Africa we make a sweet treat called koeksisters (roughly translated as twisted sisters). Your lovely breads reminded me of them
