Mutton Recipe @

Dalcha is a  meat stew made with lentil and tamarind.. Used mutton ribs if possible since it is much tastier than using the meat. The lentil and mutton are boiled then added to the curry after the meat turns soft. In addition vegetables like brinjal, carrot, potato or green banana are used in cooking this dish. I would say the dalcha is almost a complete meal by itself. Green mango could be included if available to enhance the flavor thus giving slight tangy taste.  Adjust the chili powder to suit your taste. The dalcha tends to become thick when cool so dilute with hot water. Let's see what you need for preparing this healthy food.

Mutton Recipe  @


400 g mutton ribs cut into medium size pieces  400 g  daging kambing/lembu bhg rusuk
1/2 cup toor dhal (soak 2-3 hours)                      1/2 cawan kacan dal rendam 2-3 jam
3 shallots sliced                                                    3 biji bawan merah di hiris
2 cloves garlic chopped                                        2 biji bawang putih cincang
1 tablespoon ground ginger                                   1 sudu besar halia yand di tumbuk
1 big onion sliced                                                   1 biji bawang besar hiris tipis
1 carrot cut into 1.5 inches length                           1 btg karot potong 1.5 in panjang
2 potato cut into 4 each                                            2 biji kentang belah 4
2 eggplant split into half then cut each half into 3-4 pieces  2 btg terong belah 2, potong 3-4
2 tablespoons meat curry powder                                          2 sudu besar kari daging
1 tablespoon chili powder                                                      1 sudu besar serbuk cili
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder                                                1/2 sudu teh seruk kunyit
1 tablespoon tamarind mix with 1/2 cup water to obtain juice  1 sudu besar asam campur dgn 1/2                                                                                                        cawan air utk air asam
3 tomato quartered                                                                3 tomato belah 4
1/2 cup coconut milk                                                            1/2 cawan santan
2 green chili slit                                                                    2 btg cili hijau belah 2
1 stick cinnamon                                                                   1 btg kayu manis
2 cardamoms                                                                         2 biji buah pelaga
2 cloves                                                                                 2 biji bunga lawang
2 sprig curry leaves                                                               2 pelepah daun kari
1 small green mango cut                                                       1 biji mangga muda potong kecil
3 tablespoons oil                                                                   3 sudu besar minyak
salt to taste                                                                            garam
3-4 cups water                                                                      3-4 cawan air
coriander leaves                                                                   daun ketumbar hiris kasar


1. Put mutton in a deep pot together with dhal, ginger, garlic, big onion, green chili, turmeric powder, curry leaves, cinnamon, cardamoms, cloves and salt. Add water and boil until meat and dhal are cooked.

2. Add potato, carrot, eggplant, mango and cook until soft.

3. Now add coconut milk and tamarind juice, let it boil.

4. In a separate pan, heat oil, fry shallot until light brown, add meat curry powder, chili powder and curry leaves, cook until fragrant. Add tomato cook for 1 minute

5. Pour the fried spices including the oil into mutton pot, cover and cook for few minutes.

6. Garnish with coriander leaves at the time of serving.


Masukkan daging, kacang dal, halia, bawang putih, bawang besar, cili hijau, kunyit, daun kari, kayu manis, buah pelaga, bunga lawang, garam dan air,  Tutup periok dan masak hingga daging empuk dan dal lembut, buka periuk dan kacau selalu.   Masukkan kentang, karot, mangga, biarlan empuk baru masukkan terung.  Apabila terung sudah masak, campur santan dan air asam, biar mendidih.  Panaskan minyak dlm kuali, goreng bawang kecil hingga kuning baru masukkan rempah kari, serbuk cili dan daun kari,  biar wangi.  Campurkan tomato, kacau  biar tomato masak.  Tuangkan rempah dengan minyak nya sekali ke dalam periuk daging.  Kacau masak sekejap.  Angkat dan hiaskan dengan daun ketumbar.
